Hello! Wow - what a scorcher! We'll be happy when the weather breaks! We've been having fun at Warwick Castle playing for the Dragon Slayers. So what's new?
Hello! This week I've been filming, it's mostly been flute, fife and a little bit of fiddleharpa. I did another unboxing video, a £14.73 Yamaha fife from Amazon, check out the video to see if I liked it! It's also a Symmetry dance week this week. So if you want to come along and play, the dots are uploaded to my Zoom dance dots page. There is a link to the Zoom meeting. It's Sunday 14th at 7pm in Zoom.
Hello! We're back from Valhalla safe and sound! It was an epic weekend with lots of driving and lots of Vikings and it was a lot of fun. I taught beginners workshops and had lots of willing Vikings to teach! There's a little video from one of the groups - not bad for an hours worth of group lesson! So we've got a few days to collect ourselves ready for our next time of being on the road! I've rearranged the Children's Course slightly, but not so much you'd notice much difference! So what's new this week?
Hello! This week we're off to Valhalla or to give it its full name Valhalla Viking Festival. We've been rehearsing hard in the lounge (Or Studio 1 as we call it!) and have lots of different things that we don't normally perform. So this week I have some tunes that we're playing at the festival!
Hello! Wow, what a hot week! I did some filming, the editing is done and now the videos are all uploaded. I'll be releasing a new video each week! So what do we have this week? Schottis från Oviken for nyckelharpa Jämtlands Brudmarsch for nyckelharpa Edelweiss! for the mini-nyckelharpa in the Children's course Röra Röret for Swedish Säckpipa
We've got two Zoom dances coming up - Tuesday 19th and 26th July. The music if you want to play along (and the Zoom link) is on the dances page.
Hello! I've taken into the plunge of the YouTube #shorts world! YouTube shorts are video filmed in portrait and less than 60 seconds long. So I thought I'd try to upload a new short everyday! You can find these shorts on my YouTube Channel, but I've also made a dedicated page on this website! I'll list the tunes I play in these blog entries. I'll be trying to do tunes I have lessons for! You'll get to follow us around the country as I'll be filming quite a few on the road! (I should have started whilst we were in Sweden and done the Midsommar parade! Maybe I'll sneak it in by stealth!)
Hello! We're back home from Sweden and straight back onto the road again. So it's time to bring a couple of lessons over from the old site. I thought it was the perfect opportunity to bring over Mid-Year Spice as it is the middle of the year! Play it with a laid back groove! I also added The Singi Sunset, a nice little waltz. Mid-Year Spice The Singi Sunset
I've also added Gånglåt i Sorg on the English Border Pipes. Very sad tune! (If you'd like to play it on nyckelharpa go to this version!)
I hope you're all having a great midsummer! :)) Vicki
Hello! We've been very much away this week, but I did have a question about one of the lessons last night with a D tuning question, so once we'd finished rehearsing I went and filmed a quick video. Speed was of the essence, so I filmed in the spare room! I added that video to the original lesson. Starter for Two - D tuned
It's fast approaching Midsommar and there are some definite tunes a person needs to learn for midsommar. I am on the road and away from camera for the next week - but I'm going to see if I can put together a Midsommar Tune Survival guide whilst I'm away - I may need to film by stealth! Watch out for next week's blog entry, I'll add it early and keep updating as I go!
This got me thinking about Midsommar 2020. I did some films for a Swedish mosaic, pairing Böl-Olle's Schottis with Äppelbo Gånglåt. So I've added Böl-Olle's Schottis to this site and included the video at the bottom of this page! Enjoy! :)) Vicki
