Week 39: Portugal!

Hola!
This week was teaching in Portugal and it was a lot of fun! A real flying visit though as it was sandwiched in-between other events! Hopefully it will be the start of many visits! Because I've been on the road I've not managed to get the camera out to film the lessons from Halsway. This is in the schedule for tomorrow as I prepare for Burg Fürsteneck!

So what is new this week?

For nyckelharpa we have Diversion Ahead.

I have now started an A-Z of dance music for the flute, so every week now for the next 26 weeks there will be a new flute tune. This week it's A and Auretti's Dutch Skipper.

On the säckpipa we have Lästringe Gånglåt - a great little tune and not too tricky!

Enjoy
:))

Week 38: Halsway Week

Hello!
It's been a busy week with Halsway, it was amazing! I've now got quite a few videos to film as back up, so watch out for those in the next few weeks. Today I have been recording for some secret projects in-between gigs, so it's been tricky to catch up!

I have finally added the lesson for Schottis efter Eric Sahlström for the nyckelharpa that I taught at Halsway in March!

On the fife we have Drowsie Maggie and for the Scottish Smallpipes we have Butterfingers.
For the Swedish Säckpipa we have Brudmarsch efter Nedergårds Lars, it's a nice simple tune.

I've put some of the videos below for you to watch!
Enjoy

Week 37: Halsway is close!

Hello!
It's the start of the week where loads of nyckelharpa players descend on Halsway Manor. Many people are already on their way! As the week goes on I'll be more and more frantic, so this entry is being written early! What's new?

Gammal Schottis efter Bengt Håkansson for the Swedish säckpipa and also a starters video.
The Butterfly was added for the fife. There are a few fife lessons being added to the flute - but when they're in, there is a whole new flute thing going to happen!

I am going to be doing some Henry Purcell catches for the nyckelharpa at Halsway, so this week I have released the first of these! An Ape, a Lion, a Fox and an Ass is quite jolly! I'll be doing 10 of these at Halsway so watch out for a spate of these catches with minus one parts this autumn!

I have just released my 1000 public video on YouTube! To celebrate I jumped out of the recording session I was in and filmed a little waltz that I composed just before I hit record. Enjoy - The Thousandth!

Week 36: One week to Halsway

Hello!
It's just one week to go until Halsway and I'm getting excited! Watch out for some cool new tunes from Småland in the next few weeks! I'm also working on a new mic comparison microphone. It's one for use in ceilidhs and it's going to get a proper workout this weekend!

So what's new? We have four tunes this week:

For nyckelharpa, I added a new performance video to Jonny's tune New England Square. It's a jolly tune! I also added The Archer from the Huntsman's Chorus. It's a video on the mini-nyckelharpa and I've put it in the Children's section - but it's a great tune and worth playing.

I added a fife lesson - Paddy in London.
For Scottish Smallpipes we have Champion of the Seas, I love this tune a lot, so expect it to turn up in the nyckelharpa course at some point soon! (It won't be in this key!)

Enjoy!

So to the workshop, I taught all the tunes I had planned and now I have completed the final video that was missing. So here are the dots and here are the lessons:

This week we have also have a fiddleharpa tune - Darkside, but you can also see the same tune played on the standard nyckelharpa!
We also have Crossing the Minch on the Scottish Smallpipes.

Enjoy

Hello!
We're back from Valhalla safe and sound! It was an epic weekend with lots of driving and lots of Vikings and it was a lot of fun. I taught beginners workshops and had lots of willing Vikings to teach! There's a little video from one of the groups - not bad for an hours worth of group lesson! So we've got a few days to collect ourselves ready for our next time of being on the road! I've rearranged the Children's Course slightly, but not so much you'd notice much difference! So what's new this week?

Vals efter Hans Werkmäster från Rättvik for nyckelharpa
Katie's Waltz on the mini-nyckelharpa in the Children's course (but good for adults too!)
Brudmarsch efter Calle Svankvist for the Swedish Säckpipa
Hälleforsnäspolskan went out as a short from Valhalla!

Enjoy!

Hello!
This week we're off to Valhalla or to give it its full name Valhalla Viking Festival. We've been rehearsing hard in the lounge (Or Studio 1 as we call it!) and have lots of different things that we don't normally perform. So this week I have some tunes that we're playing at the festival!

Valhalla near Basingstoke - written by Jonny in the sienaharpa course.
Wolf Rock's March - written by Jonny, also in the sienaharpa course.
Cadrill Kozaken for Swedish Säckpipa

Enjoy. See you on the other side of Valhalla!
