Playford in Shorts
For the 400th anniversary of John Playford's birthday in 2023 I decided to film the entire first edition of 1651 and publish them as YouTube Shorts. I called this #PlayfordinShorts I am now working my way through the different editions. This will definitely take a while! Each subsequent will have a "working page" which shows what's in and what's out and what order they are in the book. This page will be a complete list of all the tunes!
The tune names in brackets are my change tunes by Jonny and Myself.
In 2026 I was lucky enough to discover a 10th edition being sold at auction and decided to go and bid on it. As a Playford Dance musician this book is iconic. I even tell a story about how/why it was created. I had been obsessing about this manuscript ever since seeing one in person and decided I had to try and win it. At least I would be able to say - I was there. I was more than there - I won it. So now my goal is to film and upload all the dance tunes right from the first edition and up to my own copy. Wish me luck!
